PUBLIC DELIVERABLES:
Deliverable: D1.1 Powered Two-Wheelers – Road Traffic Accident scenarios and common injuries
PIONEERS Project has established definitions for relevant Accident Scenarios and body regions which may form a new common understanding and will accelerate harmonization processes in this research field. Furthermore, several datasets from Europe and Australia (Compilation of macrostatistical European accident data as well as data from national statistics and in-depth accident investigations) of latest years have been analysed to provide a current understanding of the accident occurrence of powered two-wheelers.

Deliverable: D4.2 Advanced PPE systems to improve rider protection
One of the four main pillars of the PIONEERS project was to develop a new set of PPEs for motorcyclist, which exceed the current state of the art. The four industrial partners of the project worked in parallel tasks within WP4 each aiming at developing enhanced PPEs for the four main regions of the human body addressed by the project, which are head, upper torso, pelvis and lower legs.
DAINESE developed novel energy absorbing concepts for the manufacture of helmet liners with advanced brain protection. REV’IT! developed a protective inflatable, as well as the garment to accommodate this PPE, aiming to improve the brand’s state-of-the-art in thorax protection. MOTOAIRBAG developed a new airbag for thorax protection. The focus was to enlarge the use of protective airbag meeting EU standard. DAINESE developed a new concept of protection for the pelvis. Finally, ALPINESTARS developed a touring boot prototype with improved protective performances.

Deliverable: D5.1 Report on user acceptance of pre-crash braking system
The document reports the research activity performed within Task5.2 on the user acceptance of the Pre-Crash Braking (PCB) function. The background on previous activities on PCB, together with the general objective of the Task and the internal organization of the activities is reported in Chapter 2. The definition of the test protocols, and, at large, the preparation and implementation of the experimental study is described in Chapter 3. In Chapter 4 are reported the analyses of
the collected data. The results delivered relevant insights in the perception of the PCB by end-users. Also important methodological results were obtained, as the protocols efficiently reproduced realworld conditions, while preserving the safety of the participants. On these results it will be possible to build future experimental activities to further test the acceptability of end-users

Deliverable: D5.2 Demonstrator of generic airbag trigger
The necessity of PPE for motorcycle riders is obvious. Advanced systems like airbag jackets, help to reduce severe injuries and fatalities. A challenging key feature for these systems is the reliable detection of an accident event and consequently the timely and proper triggering of the airbag. In this deliverable, a demonstrator of a generic airbag triggering mechanism has been developed that shows the benefits of a motorbike-assisted crash detection through wireless communication.

Deliverable: D5.3 Demonstrator of lateral impact mitigation system
This document describes the activities carried out in T5.4 “Lateral Impact Mitigation” and related achievements. The objective of T5.4 is to design on-board systems that give maximum protection to the rider, particularly to lower limbs. Achieved results are two demonstrators for lateral impact mitigation installed on vehicles, namely safety leg cover suitable for scooter type vehicles and motorcycle side airbag.

Deliverable: D.6.2 Safety and Economic Benefits
This deliverable include the evaluation of the the impact of some passive safety systems in terms of reduction of fatalities rate, probability and severity of injuries. PreCrash Braking System, airbag jacket and the PTW-PPE communication system and motorcycle and scooter leg protector have been analyzed.
In addition, an economic benefit approach has been adopted. This work has evaluated how the new PPE system and new methods can contribute to significant savings in health care costs.
However, all the evaluations have to be taken very carefully. In particular, results from societal and economical evaluations are sensible and have to be considered cautiously. Beyond these specific evaluations, theroretical methodologies have been defined and could be applied on other systems.
